some 6 hours ago, i created The Convergence@FB and thus revived the little online gathering space that i first created for 2003-3E1/2004-4E1 5 years back (5 yrs?!?). i have since lost the first original incarnation, and you can still take a look at Version 2 “The Next Chapter” put together by Bryan/Yehao.
and here’s another yummy cake for the (hard?) work *grin*

yesterday the itchy fingers decided to upgrade the MT server script from 4.1 to 4.21. and all my unicode text turned gibberish after that! spent many hours trying to restore the lost text from the then untouched monthly archives. this is not the first time it has happened and i have no idea why it happened at all *duh*
anyway, this yummy cake is here to commemorate the completion of the resuce mission, some damage’s permanent though.

 

 

this morning, i received in the mailbox an email from 世界汉语教学Chinese Teaching in the World” journal that our article 以元认知为主导信息科技为辅的口语教学模式探索 has been accepted for future publication!
will still need some hard work to produce the final draft though :O.
anyway, this is real great news for me 🙂

For many of us English-speaking foreigners, we are quite used to the Chinese displaying “interesting” use of English and many would shake their head with disapproval. And we think as native Chinese, their Chinese would be perfect. Well, if we were to think ‘perfect’ is something hard to achieve, perhaps we would least expect such ‘imperfection’ to be displayed at an official public space, it simply doesnt reflect well. If my student were to ask “老师，中国人正式的场合华文都能犯错，我们写错别字你就不要那么生气了好吗？” Hmm … perhaps we/I should be more forgiving at times? 😛

This is a display item in the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum.

And you have read that Chinese’s a conservative lot. Perhaps it doesnt apply in modern Shanghai? Here you look upon an ‘attractive‘ ‘subject‘, and thereafter you pressed the subject’s ‘bottoms‘ !?! *gasp*
