a little life lesson a little reminder

after the conversations with all eight student teachers i supervised for the recent practicum, this is my little takeaway from the morning, and it’s definitely good reminder for me as a teacher, as a learner, as a parent, as a friend, and as a human person (:

many at times we make assumptions and use busy as an excuse to not find out more about things that we observed. open communication and the effort to do so helps one to clarify observations and the misunderstandings within. and it reminds one of empathy, for the same thing may very well happen to you and be misunderstood by an observer too.

或许这就是命; 天时、地利、人和,三者的聚集才能成就一件好事,不易啊!

this is water

yet another video that illustrates “it’s a matter of perspective”, “change your perspective and you may change your life” (:

人生无常, Wallace, who gave this speech in 2005, is not around us anymore; only his voice is still with us to remind us of life’s lesson.

making soft half-boiled egg

if you are HUNGRY right now, boil some water till 100C, put in the whole egg and continue boiling for 6 mins. take out and immediately immerse in water with ice until it’s not hot to touch. remove the shell slowly, and …. *slurp* (:

the paid 2 hours of work story

on this day, mum paid $50 expecting an hourly maid to come in to do 2 hours of chores.
maid arrived at 0900hr, briefed by mum, started work, and packed to leave at 1000hr.

mum: hey! why you work for only half an hour and you are leaving? you’re supposed to work till 11am right?
maid: no, 10am is correct.
mum: but i paid you $50 when your hourly rate is $25.
maid: yes yes. i spent 30 mins to come from home to here, spent 30 mins to discuss the work with you, cleaned the house for 30 mins, and i still need 30 mins to go home. so all in all, 120 minutes = 2 hours. IF i were to work 1 min extra, that would really be courtesy of me. you ought to write me a “Thank You” card to show your gratitude! but for now, bye-bye (:

i’m utterly impressed when mum related the story to me (:
