new pedagogy for 21C

if the current school system was organised for the Industrial Age, and school’s killing creativity, where should schools be going? (:

2013 TED Prize winner Sugata Mitra, who founded the “Hole in the Wall” experiments, has proposed a new pedagogy during his recent TED talk.

the new pedagogy is simple and almost unbelievable. it’s: say, “I haven’t the foggiest idea” followed by “I am going away.” and leave the learners on their own to self-organise. how much further can you go in SDL than this? (:

Two new books published for teachers!

(cross posting my 3-mths old post in The ICT Connection Happenings blog, which is opened to ‘members’ only)

It’s been 1 year since the launch of The ICT Connection portal. Part of our objectives is to deepen the common understanding of the multifaceted concepts of mp3. In-line with this objective, we have worked over the past many months with the NIE professors. And today, we are pleased to share with you that two new books are now available for download through this portal.

The first book is titled “Self-Directed Learning with ICT: Theory, Practice and Assessment (By Tan Seng Chee et al.)

And the second book is “Advancing Collaborative Learning with ICT: Conception, Cases and Design (By Chai Ching Sing et al.)

With these two newly written books, one touching on SDL, and the other on CoL, we hope educators in schools will benefit from reading them as much as we do. Enjoy! (:

LK has also a post on the two books here (:

The ICT Connection, Launched!

after near 7 months of work, from conceptualising to engaging vendor to put things together in machine-understandable language for human-comprehensible output, The ICT Connection was finally launched last week at the iCTLT 2010. let’s not think abt the work ahead for a while 😛 cos in actual fact, the real work of populating the portal with ICT lesson examples has just started. here’s the video of the launch scene, and the launch animation to mark the moment 🙂

through The ICT Connection, we hope teachers will be able to learn about ict pedagogies that can enrich and transform the learning environment of our students. teachers can also find ict lesson examples created for teachers by teachers, which integrate pedagogy and technology to cultivate self-directed (SDL) and collaborative (CoL) learners. all teachers are welcome to make use of these ideas and also share their ict-based lessons with fellow teachers.

as part of the on-going promotion of the portal, “do visit us today ;)” *hehe*
