in the midst of writing a (next-to-meaningless) term paper and my mind drifted off (not surprising) and the word "Logo" came to mind.
gotten this off wikipedia:
Logo is a computer programming language used for functional programming. It is an easier to read adaptation and dialect of the Lisp language; some have called it "Lisp without the parentheses." It was created for educational use, more so for constructivist teaching, by Daniel G. Bobrow, Wally Feurzeig and Seymour Papert. Today, it is known mainly for its "turtle graphics", but it also has significant facilities for handling lists, files, I/O, and recursion. Logo can be used to teach most computer science concepts, as UC Berkeley Lecturer Brian Harvey does in his "Computer Science Logo Style" trilogy.
here's a sample of logo's code.
to get a copy of the berkeley's logo, visit Brian Harvey's home page or George Mills' MSWLogo page.
if you are hunting for a firewall software and you'll like something that's FREE (and good of coz), get ZoneAlarm Free.
Welcome to the intersection of ZoneAlarm® ingenuity and philosophy. Since day one we have been giving away our award shattering firewall for free. Why we do this is simple - we fundamentally believe everyone has the right to experience the Internet in safety. Please enjoy, with our compliments.
and btw if you are looking for FREE antivirus software (and good one of coz), get AVG Anti-virus Free Edition. i have been using it for 3 years and it has helped me grab many viruses on the run. especially useful when your friends plugged in their usb/thumb/flash drives into your pc/laptop. and the best thing is, AVG uses relatively less system resources compared to some other BIG names which you may be familiar with ;)
Found this HOWTO written by Productivity Portfolio introducing the software Cryptainer LE. check it out and protect your data before it's too late!
haven had the chance to get my hands on one of this, so in the meantime, this should suffice:
"How the iPhone Works" from Howstuffworks :P
some interesting things (i thot it was interesting):
- (the screen) can also detect multiple touch points simultaneously, which many existing touch-screens cannot do.
- (again abt the screen) the iPhone works only if you touch it with your fingertip -- it won't work if you use a stylus or wear non-conductive gloves.
- the front surface of the Apple iPhone has only one button -- the Home button
- the shape of the screen changes when you need it to ... shift the perspective from vertical to horizontal by tilting the phone (through) an accelerometer inside the iPhone ...
- lacks 3G capability for high-speed data transfer
was prompted this question 2 days ago and din really go to look for an answer for this aged old question. found this article reviewing the question from the technical specifications. the quality of the two is regardless of the media/manufacturer but the standards themselves.
read the full article "Why DVD+R(W) is superior to DVD-R(W)" writthen by Michael Spath yourself, and the reactions below the article were very insightful too!
or if you only want the conclusion: PLUS (+R) is superior to minus (-R) according to the article :)
was discussing with yilong whether to embed audio files for the bridge content or to make it available for download, then realised the latter will be ideal if audio files can be watermarked.
and a search in google turns out such software do exist! if you are not sure what is audio watermarking like me, check out this primer by eric metois.
